Susan Casey

Artist Bio

Susan Casey is a sculptor living in Philadelphia who works with found objects and paper making techniques to create artwork that subverts traditional narratives of legacy and inheritance. Her love of textures and material properties initially drove her to obtain a fine arts degree in jewelry and later a career at the intersection of craft and design. Her experiences in the field of bespoke craft called into question the assumed value ascribed to fine materials like metal, wood, and stone. The objects that she creates now from waste and fiber are comparatively ephemeral and dare her audience to appreciate strong statements from delicate forms.

Frequently combining the organic quality of paper pulp with second-hand manufactured materials like single use packaging, mass produced toys, and found industrial scrap in a way that intentionally reduces consumer waste and calls into question the current cultural acceptance of products that will outlast their useful lifespan by many generations.
